HANDMADE: a 'small village' in the middle of a big city
Ukrainian women who evacuated their families and lived in European countries had to change not only their address and lifestyle. Many have turned their hobby into a small business and manufactured designer items, accessories, and jewelry. Before the war, all this seemed like trinkets, something "for pleasure" and relaxation. Now it has turned into handmade products which Ukrainian makers offer to the local residents or try to sell online. But each country has specific differences in the handmade market. Best insides we can take from the local makers and organizers of handmade marketplaces.
If you are not a fan of arts and crafts, be a fan of your own life!
Many of us think about the post-war future of Ukraine. What materials and technologies can a creative business work with, and how can it produce without harming people and the environment? The Clothing Bank and the Waste Management Center is no longer news. But the experience of others always teaches something. Magdolna Mohácsek, who lives in the hospitable city of Cluj-Napoca (Romania), creates floor lamps, table lamps of all sizes, and unique jewelry by recycling used Nespresso coffee capsules and giving them a second life. She is inspired by the opportunity to participate in the renewal of the surrounding world. No wonder her brand is called Magdness.
